DEBATE ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE ONLY SUSPENDED

The Senate completed this political round on Bill C-38 (same-sex marriage) on July 19th, voting in favour of it. This ended the corrupt and manipulative manoeuvres of the Liberal Government, which consistently refused to allow the democratic process to function during the debate.

The obstructions to democracy in order to have this bill passed included:

  • a stacked House of Commons Legislative Committee on Bill C-38 ordered to pass the bill without amendments, after hearing only a few witnesses;

  • the buying and pay off of MPs, such as Belinda Stronach, Chuck Cadman and, unsuccessfully, MPs David Kilgour and Gurmant Singh Grewal;

  • the use of a 1969 obscure procedural technique which allowed a vote to proceed without giving proper notice to the Conservatives, many of whom had left the House during that late evening, but allowed Liberal, NDP and Bloc Quebecois MPs to be present, having been "tipped off" by the Liberals of the pending crucial vote;

  • the invoking of closure, both in the House of Commons and the Senate (guillotine), which cut off legitimate debate and excluded proposed amendments to the bill; and

  • a Liberal stacked Senate ordered to support the bill again without amendments, proper debate, or hearing of many witnesses.

These manipulative procedures may have won the Liberals the vote on Bill C-38, but not the war, which is now fast approaching with the federal election expected within the next few months.

It is possible that the Martin Liberals will meet defeat within the year during the next federal election as history repeats itself:

  • Liberal arrogance in 1957 over the pipeline led to Liberal defeat;

  • Liberal arrogance and intensive pork-barreling in 1983 led to Liberal defeat;

  • Liberal arrogance over Bill C-38 and its imposing of the Bill unacceptable to the majority of Canadians, by compelling the Cabinet and pressuring the Liberal backbenchers to vote for it, plus the Liberals' overt corruption as disclosed in the Gomery hearings, may well lead to its defeat.

In short, it is believed that this government will not recover from Bill C-38, the imposition on Canadians of third world politics by way of arrogant top-down government, the open bribery to obtain votes, and the manipulation of the Parliamentary process. Observers believe that such corruption will serve to bring down this despotic Prime Minister and his cronies.

The fact is the Liberals, in their ruthless determination to remain in power, have sucked all the oxygen out of the air surrounding Canadian politics. Its tricks, bribes, and unscrupulous measures are well below the standard of behaviour expected of a legitimate government. This Liberal Government has outlived its usefulness to most Canadians.

Bill C-38 to be Revisited

Conservative leader Stephen Harper has stated he will re-visit Bill C-38 if he is elected as Prime Minister in the forthcoming election. This can be accomplished because Bill C-38 was legislation passed by Parliament, and any such legislation can be repealed or undone by another Parliament. This regularly occurs.

The decisions of the provincial courts in support of same-sex marriage apply only within their own jurisdictions. Only the Supreme Court of Canada can speak for all of Canada on this issue and it has not done so.

On the reference questions last December, the Supreme Court of Canada failed to answer the famous fourth question as to whether opposite-sex marriages were unconstitutional. It merely stated that the government could, if it wished, expand marriage to include same-sex couples. Significantly, it did not say that this extension of marriage to same-sex relationships was required or mandatory as a human right or an equality issue - only that it could be done if the government wished to do so as a matter of social policy.

If a Conservative Government repeals Bill C-38, homosexual activists will then challenge it in the courts. Hopefully, for a change, they will have to pay for this legal challenge from their own pockets, rather than the tax supported Court Challenges Program, as, undoubtedly, the Conservatives will have the foresight to immediately disband this biased program. If the Supreme Court of Canada does subsequently find the repeal of Bill C-38 unconstitutional, even though such a ruling would be directly contrary to the public's views on the issue, then and only then will it be necessary to invoke the notwithstanding clause (S.33 of the Charter). Hopefully, we can expect better appointments to the Supreme Court under the Conservatives. Judges will then review the law based on established precedent, the sweep of history and the public good, rather than by bowing to the latest fashion and fad, as is occurring with the present court.

The Benefits of our Opposition to Bill C-38

Although the Liberals managed to pass the contemptible Bill C-38, our effort in working against it were extremely worthwhile since they caused our forces to become organized and deeply engaged in the political process.

In effect, Bill C-38 awoke a sleeping giant that, according to an editorial in the homosexual newspaper, Capital Xtra (July 14, 2005) (reproduced in full on page 3), threatens to change the face of Canadian politics over the next generation. (This editorial is worth reading, even though the invective in the article is contemptible. Imagine the reaction if REAL Women wrote about homosexuals in the mean-spirited way this homosexual editor writes about traditionalists.)

Most of us were very aware that we were mightily effective during the C-38 battle. This editorial by the homosexual opposition confirms it. We were only defeated by the unscrupulous manoeuvres of a corrupt and manipulative government.

We were successful during the Bill C-38 debate because so many of us participated in that debate. Faxes, phone calls, emails, letters to the editor, rallies, demonstrations - it all worked, and it will again in the election campaign.

Be aware that during this coming election battle, the media will be doing their utmost to destroy the credibility of Stephen Harper. The election campaign will also be filled with questionable polls, attempting to undermine the Conservatives, their values and their candidates. Ignore them. Keep your eye on the ball, which is the defeat of the Liberal Government. If the Liberal government should win the next election, it will be with great difficulty, since it will have to struggle against the tremendous resistance and obstacles we will place in its path.

We did impressive work undermining Bill C-38, and, with God's Grace, we can and will do impressive work during the 2006 federal election campaign. Let us pray and prepare ourselves for this battle.
