A Talk by Lorna Dueck
Broadcaster and Journalist

Lorna Dueck is the Executive Producer of the current affairs program LISTEN UP TV. She is a well known writer, columnist and commentator for several newspapers, including the Globe and Mail, and was a co-host on 100 Huntley Street, a Christian television program.

She spoke at the conference on "Strength for the Journey", an enlightened perspective on the Book of Isaiah, which she is studying at the moment. She showed that the more times change, the more they stay the same, and that we are facing identical problems as Isaiah, with the same solutions through a life walking with God.

The Uzziah's 53 year reign started with faithfulness to God, but pride took over, and he was struck with leprosy. The call for holiness was ignored, and, as the fear of God had left, subsequent kings were immoral and Divine Government ended. God, though, never gave up on his people.

The prophet Isaiah was speaking in this moral chaos about God's faithfulness and willingness to forgive, to lead if His people would put their trust in Him and stand firm in righteousness. He demands that we never move beyond our supply line of quiet devotion and prayer, in stillness before God. In our present day battles the same applies in the knowledge that God fights our battles if we commit ourselves to Him.

The battles REAL Women are fighting are significant also. We need to encourage one another, and be "wise as serpents" in all we do, and be positive, especially about the great things families do. We can speak up more, especially in the media and be available to them. Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister, Pierre Pettigrew's comment that churches should stay out of the same-sex marriage debate has ignited a groundswell of protest, as we have every right as believers to be involved in the debate.

Among all the serious battles we are fighting, we should not forget our heavenly supply line, which allows us to not only have peace, but even to rejoice and have fun and delight. Our Godliness and joy is attractive to the world around us. That world, especially the media, is more afraid of us than we realize. If we stay soundly on message, we will be listened to, the message of truth, to "persevere, persist, fear not".

The climate in the country is changing and we can be a voice of reason that will resonate in the hearts and minds of people.

This talk by Lorna was truly inspirational and motivates us to continue our efforts to stand for righteousness and justice for all.
