PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The new year meant a time of reckoning for me. The time had come for me to face the music. I had to suffer the consequences of my own actions. The time had come to sort and file the papers that I had been stacking for the past three months. I admire people who file papers on a regular basis, but that is simply not my forte . To me, filing is akin to cleaning the oven. I put both jobs off as long as possible.
The amazing thing is that I pretty much know where a particular paper is, as long as no one moves my papers. However, as I said, it was time to mend my ways, start anew and resolve to do better. Besides that, there was no work space left on my desk. So... I finally sorted, filed and threw away papers. I even set-up a system to encourage me to do this on a more regular basis. I am now ready with a renewed spirit and determination to tackle the social and political issues facing us in 1998.
This cleaning and sorting process did give me the opportunity to review some of the correspondence and publications that had accumulated on my desk. This included an assortment of letters from the supporters and members of REAL Women of Canada. The majority of letters contained comments like the following:
- keep up the good work
- look forward to Reality, it is excellent
- thanks for the suggestions on writing MPs
A few letters posed questions, such as:
- why not focus on just one issue instead of so many?
- why bother with the homosexual agenda?
- why target politicians, why not target church leaders?
REAL Women of Canada is a non-partisan, non-denominational organization committed to being a voice in government, in the courts and in the media to defend and promote the traditional values of marriage and family. In order to do this, we research, analyse and report on the anti-life, anti-family issues in our society. This is the reason we cannot ignore the homosexual agenda or only focus on one single issue. And, we do, from time to time, confer and correspond with religious based associations and leaders. However, it is the federal and provincial politicians who determine public policy in Canada, so, as a national lobby group, our target is the political process.
A couple of letters suggested that each REAL Women member should sign-up one new member. Not a bad idea. Without a doubt, the one-to-one personal contact is the most effective way to increase membership. Please give it a try.
During my desk cleaning I noticed several publications with articles calling for individual personal involvement in the social and political concerns of our country. Personal action backed by prayer can be a powerful force. We highly recommend it. As one article stated, " to make a difference, you don't need to do much, but you must keep doing it". A good idea.
Thank you for your letters and for your support. We do appreciate and welcome your comments, your criticisms, your questions and your donations. Together, we can make a difference!
