Phony Statistics By Homosexuals
The Ottawa-based homosexual lobby group, EGALE (Equality, for Gays And Lesbians Everywhere) has hit upon a sure way to boost its propaganda and at the same time, have the Canadian taxpayer pay for it.
Gullible Hedy Fry, Minister of Multiculturalism and Women's Issues (whose riding of Vancouver Centre has a large number of homosexual/lesbians), has agreed to fund a "survey" to determine the extent of "homophobia" and to determine the number of homosexuals/ lesbians/ bisexuals in Canada. Amazingly, this survey is being conducted nearly three years after Bill C-41 was pushed through Parliament by the federal Liberal government on the grounds that homosexuals/lesbians needed the protection specially provided by that Bill. (Bill C-41 provided for increased sentences for crimes against members of designated groups, including homosexuals/lesbians, if the crime was motivated by hate.) (See Reality, July/August 1995, p. 5, "Bill C-41 Passes .... at a price") In short, why was Bill C-41 passed back in June 1995 when there was no proven need for it?
What is just as astonishing about this proposed survey is the fact that it is to be carried out by the homosexuals themselves, through their organization EGALE. If the government wants accurate statistics, why would it fund a survey carried out by those who clearly have a self-interest in the outcome of the research? As stated by Reform MP and Heritage critic, Jim Abbott (Kootenay-Columbia, BC), in Western Report (February 23, 1998):
If the government wanted an objective appraisal of the value of women staying at home, Hedy Fry would be the first to say that REAL Women could not do an unbiased survey. Why then does she think EGALE can do an unbiased survey? Obviously she doesn't [want an objective appraisal].
According to the February 26, 1998 issue of the homosexual newspaper, Xtra, EGALE intends to distribute its survey in homosexual clubs and at Pride Days across the country.
Why wasn't Statistics Canada, asked to conduct this survey, being an organization which is supposed to operate at arms length on the government's behalf, and which supposedly has no axe to grind and no conflicts of interest? Why abuse the taxpayers by this phony survey? Is it a "set up" to "prove" that homosexuals have a larger constituency and, therefore, should be given a stronger political voice in Parliament?
Clearly, Hedy Fry's purpose in funding this survey is to protect her own self-interest -- that is, to get herself re-elected. She's already given a $15,000 grant toward the planning phase of the survey, so one shudders to think what taxpayers are going to end up paying for the entire process. Ms. Fry has also admitted that other government departments, including Canadian Heritage and the Department of Health, will also be contributing to the survey.
It seems likely, however, that the results of this "survey" will serve as propaganda to enable the government to move an amendment to the Criminal Code.
Amending the Criminal Code
REAL Women, of course, is not privy to the plotting and strategizing of the homosexual activists and their friends in the Liberal government. However, we can make a solid, educated guess as to what is behind this survey. We can be almost certain that it will be used as much needed "evidence" for the government and the homosexual activists to argue that the hate propaganda section (S.319) of the Criminal Code be amended to protect homosexuals from "hateful comments and propaganda" aimed at them as an "identifiable group".
At the present time, S.319 of the Criminal Code states that it is an offense to communicate statements in any public place which incites hatred against any identifiable group. The "identifiable group", under the present wording of the Code, refers to "any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, or ethnic origin". (Jim Keegstra was charged under this section.) The government and homosexual activists apparently want "sexual orientation" to be included in this list of identifiable groups.
Such an amendment would give homosexual activists a powerful tool to wield against the public in any public discussion of homosexuality. That is, such an amendment would definitely have a chilling effect on any debate about homosexuality.
When the results of the "survey" (a foregone conclusion) are released, with undoubtedly massive media coverage, we can be assured that they will be used to milk society's sympathy for the homosexual community. This supposed "vulnerability" will require that they be given special protection under the Code. Editorials and letters to the editors of newspapers across the country will promote the idea that "something" must be done to protect homosexuals. That "something" will be to amend the hate section of the Criminal Code. It will never be disclosed that the "survey" was a set-up by homosexual activists to establish phony statistics to bolster their propaganda campaign.
We should start now to expose this fraudulent survey for what it is -- an attempt by the homosexual community to provide self-serving propaganda to further its campaign to alter the fabric of Canadian society.
