High Cost to Taxpayer of Homosexual Survey
The Ottawa-based homosexual lobby group EGALE applied to several federal government departments and was given huge grants to conduct a survey in Canada. According to correspondence received from Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice, the purpose of the survey, designed and developed by EGALE is to obtain:
... a wide range of demographic information about the gay and lesbian population of Canada, including preliminary information on levels of victimization in the home, work place and in public.
Due to the obvious conflict of interest, this survey, which is to be distributed by EGALE this summer within the homosexual community, can scarcely be regarded as reliable. (See Reality, March/April 1998, "Phony Statistics by Homosexuals".)
According to John Fischer, Executive Director of EGALE:
... the reality is many gays and lesbians are not going to respond to a government survey because many will feel more comfortable responding accurately to a survey administered by an organization like EGALE.
The Department of Justice must be delighted to hand over money to EGALE because its "findings" will dovetail nicely with that department's own agenda. Currently, working groups in the Justice Department are reviewing the hate law (S.319 of the Criminal Code) to make recommendations which are supposed to go to the federal-provincial territorial justices for review this fall. It is likely that one of the department's recommendations will be to provide special protection to homosexuals / lesbians from "hateful comments and propaganda" aimed at them as an identifiable group.
Heritage Canada, the Status of Women and the Justice Department have already contributed $150,000 to help cover the cost of the initial stages of the survey (creation, printing and national distribution of the 22 pages). Another $100,000 will be required to analyse the results and issue a final report. In all, the cost is expected to be $300,000. It seems that federal funds are always available to homosexuals.
As stated in the April 2, 1998 Ottawa Xpress (homosexual publication) article:
... Clearly EGALE's survey is an indication of how far Canada's three million (sic) queers have come in the last quarter century. And, equally important, the survey will help us map new strategies for the coming millennium.
Three million? That figure is just about as accurate as the data EGALE will be collecting with its survey. (All reputable sources now estimate a nation's percentage of homosexuals at about 1-3% of its population.)
