UPDATE ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE COURT CHALLENGES

Just to give you an update on the same-sex legal challenges before the courts:

BRITISH COLUMBIA
The BC Court of Appeal will be hearing the case on February 13, 2003. Recently, an organization of Liberal Reform Rabbis applied to intervene in the case, supposedly to offset the intervention by our own Inter-Faith Coalition. The federal Attorney General argued against the intervention of this organization of Rabbis, but the Court decided to accept it as an intervenor nonetheless.

ONTARIO
On November 7, 2002, the Ontario Court of Appeal granted the federal government Leave to Appeal from the Ontario lower court decision. The appeal will be argued for four days from April 22 to April 25, 2003.

QUEBEC
Application has now been commenced for an appeal to Quebec Court of Appeal. The Catholic Civil Rights League, which intervened on the lower court, is again applying to intervene in the case.

Please remember our efforts in your prayers as well as financially. Our costs for the Court of Appeal intervention in Ontario alone has now been set at $35,000 - much more than we had expected.
