DISAGREEMENT AMONG HOMOSEXUALS OVER GAY PRIDE PARADES
According
to an editorial by Paul Gallant in the homosexual newspaper,
Xtra, (June 27, 2002 issue), a homosexual community does not
exist in the sense that they live in one place, have formal
representation or reach a consensus on issues. He stated that
homosexuals are a "community" only in the sense
that they have something to say to each other - and that "we're
often having sex with each other."
It is
apparent that there is no consensus either among homosexuals
in regard to Gay Pride parades.
QUEBEC
CITY GAY PARADE
According
to the Ottawa edition of Capital Xtra, September 27,
2002 issue, a heated dispute broke out in the Quebec City
Gay Pride parade held there on the Labour Day weekend. Homosexuals/lesbians
from all over Quebec decided to participate in this year's
parade including a group from Montreal. In August, rumours
began circulating that Quebec's parade was being taken over
by people from Montreal who would introduce the vulgarity
of Montreal's gay parade, called Divers/Cit" to the Quebec
City parade. Claudine Ouellet, President of La Coalition Gaie
Lesbienne du Qu"bec, which claims to be the official
voice of the community in Quebec City claimed the Montreal
parade showed off distasteful stereotypes with which she and
her group could not identify. She also stated that she did
not approve of nudity at the Gay parade. Organizers of the
Quebec City Gay parade also stated categorically that nudity
would not be tolerated at the Quebec City parade. This matter
came to a head at the parade itself when the organizers began
shouting at the participants over a loudspeaker demanding
that no body parts be exposed in the parade. None were.
TORONTO
GAY PARADE
Contrast
the Quebec City parade with that of Toronto and the June 27,
2002 issue of Toronto's Xtra in which feature editor
Paul Gallant supported the nudity in the Toronto parade as
an example of harmless "Queer Creativity." Even
if it's not something one would do oneself, he thought it
should be supported by others. However, Eleanor Brown in the
homosexual publication,
"Fab" (July 18, 2002 issue), stated that
she found the Toronto gay nudists "
a slightly
ridiculous lot.
" She went on to say that, "The
gay appreciation for beauty has turned into an obsession ..,"
and that "regular humanity [such as the Toronto nude
marchers] is considered grotesque."
MONTREAL
GAY PARADE
In an
article in the homosexual publication, "To Be,"
September 2002 issue on the Montreal Gay Pride Parade, "Divers/Cit',"
columnist Ouri Moulav asserted that the Gay parade and surrounding
events were just another reason "for gay people to come
and have another long weekend of partying and drugs."
He stated:
Most of the gay people don't bother to come to the parade
at all since they are still sleeping, hung over from doing
all kinds of drugs the night before. The parade was filled
with straight people who bothered to get ready, drive, find
parking and cheer us on.
He went
on to say:
The
whole drug taking, ecstasy, GHB, crystal
. or whatever
other drug is popular at the moment during these parties
and events, is killing the atmosphere and meaningfulness
of Gay pride. Instead of participating in the joy and pride
we should have for being able to be openly gay in this city,
and even marry, adopt, many of us choose to pop a few pills
and dance to unrelenting, indistinguishable music, for hours
on end. The drugs make people feel witty and happy and people
dance around touch and feel each other, but there is no
connection, no real feelings going on. It's all a drug induced
high that disappears the next day when we suddenly feel
all down and depressed as reality sets in
.
The
music ... sounds like the same pounding song over and over
again. You can't tell when one song ends and the other begins.
You can't really talk to anyone or meet anyone. People are
dancing like bumble bees going from one flower to the other,
sucking some nectar and then moving on. They can't concentrate
on one person. The next day when there is an important event
like the Montr"al Gay Pride parade, are these people
present? I don't think so!
POLITICIANS IN SUPPORT OF THE HOMOSEXUAL/LESBIAN PARADES
Liberal
Minister of Industry, Allan Rock, and Conservative Leader,
Joe Clark, happily march in these Gay Parades. One wonders
about their common sense. Both of these politicians have also
come out in support of legal "marriages" for homosexuals/
lesbians.
Mr. Rock
especially seems to be obsessed with the homosexual issue.
When he was the Minister of Justice in 1996, he pushed through
the sexual orientation amendment to the federal Human Rights
Act. We do mean "pushed", since the amendment was
passed in ten days, owing to the government using methods
unprecedented in Canadian Parliamentary history, including
the closing down of the debate by way of Closure. (See Reality,
May/June, 1996, "Liberal Tyranny over Homosexual Legislation,"
page 3.)
Mr. Rock
was recently a featured speaker, along with the well-known
US lesbian, Patricia Ireland, former president of the US National
Organization of Women (NOW), at a Conference of the Gay and
Lesbian Medical Association, held at the Royal York Hotel
in Toronto on October 26, 2002.
What
is behind Mr. Rock's obsession with the homosexuality issue?
Is his Liberal leadership campaign being generously funded
"behind the scene" and is he being offered extensive
volunteer support by homosexual activists? Rest assured, there
is something behind Mr. Rock's homosexual activism
- it's not just ideological.
