WORLD CONGRESS OF FAMILIES III
Mexico City - March 29-31, 2004
You will recall the astonishing success of
the previous World Congress of Families I held in Prague,
in the Czech Republic in 1997, and Congress II in Geneva,
Switzerland, in 1999. The World Congress of Families III was
supposed to have taken place, linked by satellite, in Mexico
City and Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, on October 27
- 30, 2002.
However, when the terrorists attacked the
World Trade Centre in New York City on September 11, 2001,
this gave rise to uncertainties about international stability
and the ease, cost and predictability of international travel.
In addition, several key pledges of financial support in the
US were affected by the economic downturn because of the tragedy.
As a result, the Third World Congress was put on hold.
The good news is that the decision has now
been made to hold the World Congress of Families III in Mexico
City on March 29 - 31, 2004.
The General Assembly of the United Nations
has designated 2004 as an International Year of the Family,
and it is important that the year begin with a proper focus
on the defence of real families.
It will be a great occasion and we hope many
REAL Women members will attend. This is just a heads up notice,
and we will keep you advised as plans progress.
