PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As I review the events of 2003 and look forward
to another busy year, the word that I most relate to REAL
Women of Canada is "persistence". No matter how
many issues must be dealt with, no matter how discouraging
the court decisions, no matter how much criticism is heaped
upon us by the secular media, we persist in fighting for the
family. We do this not for the glory, heaven knows, but because
we know how important it is to preserve traditional values
in Canada.
The most difficult battle to fight, I believe, is the apathy
of the Canadian people. I don't know of anyone who accepts
the decline of morals and values in our society, yet only
a few of my friends and acquaintances are willing to actually
take any constructive steps to fight the erosion of our traditional
values. Mind you, those few are mighty effective!
What is it that has given Canada the reputation around the
world of being such a tolerant, welcoming country? It is our
Judaeo-Christian core. The Charter of Rights (which has been
so misinterpreted by the courts) was initially greeted by
Canadians as a way of expressing our belief in the equality
and importance of all persons. It is no wonder that so many
Canadians have been so disappointed by the courts' use of
the Charter to extend their own powers.
Canadians are terribly naïve and absolutely terrified
of appearing to discriminate against others, no matter what
our personal beliefs. We are reluctant to publicly question
rulings handed down by the courts if they mention the word
"equality". This is so wrong. As I have said before,
"equality" does not mean everyone is the same. For
example, same-sex unions cannot be "equal" to heterosexual
unions, because only the latter unions are unique in that
they provide the next generation.
Canadians are just beginning to realize that religious rights
are no longer protected because the courts have given homosexual
rights priority over religious rights. It is to be hoped that
Canadians will finally wake up and recognize the need to become
actively involved in the fight for the family, and to persist
in this fight.
There are many issues coming up again this year, such as Bill
C-250, same-sex marriage reference, the Morgentaler abortion
challenge in New Brunswick, and, of course, the federal election.
Not everyone can become politically active, but there are
several ways to support the Canadian family. If you can, join
your local political association for whichever party you support,
and don't be shy about politely pressing your views at political
meetings. It is also important to write or e-mail your Member
of Parliament on issues about which you are concerned. I know
many of you REAL Women do a great job in letter-writing. Above
all, pray for our country - and also for REAL Women of Canada!
I promise you, we will persist for as long as the good Lord
allows!
God bless!
