WORLD CONGRESS OF FAMILIES III
MEXICO CITY
MARCH 29, 30 AND 31, 2004
At the beginning of the third millennium,
the world seems to be lost in chaos and confusion. Yet the
family in every nation serves as a luminous example of love,
compassion and caring. It is the foundation of each nation
and the very heart of all cultures and traditions.
We are deeply grateful, therefore, that the
pro-family organization in Mexico called Red Famillia (Spanish
for Family Network) has agreed to organize a World Congress
of Families in Mexico City to be held on March 29, 30 and
31, 2004. This gathering follows in the wonderful footsteps
of the World Congress of Families I, celebrated in Prague,
Czech Republic (1997) at which 700 delegates attended, and
the World Congress of Families II that took place in Geneva,
Switzerland in 1999, with 1600 participants.
The World Congress of Families III has invited
pro-family leaders, scholars, clergy, politicians and families,
of all beliefs and nationalities, to unite in Mexico City
to celebrate the family, and to develop a guide for people
of goodwill to counter contemporary anti-family forces with
a new and positive vision, and to construct fresh structures
of co-operation and support in favour of the family.
An invitation has been extended to both U.S.
President George W. Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox
to address the Congress, perhaps at a joint plenary session
on the first day of the Congress.
Specialists from many disciplines - sociology,
history, law, psychology, economics, anthropology, education
and theology - will defend the natural family and identify
real solutions at this Congress
The broad purposes of the World Congress of
Families are:
- To proclaim the natural family
as the fundamental unit of society;
- To rally organizations and individuals to protect
and fortify the natural family, at the local, national and
international levels;
- To change the terms of international debate on
key issues (e.g.: from 'overpopulation' to 'depopulation'
as the primary demographic problem); and
- To develop a plan of action for advancing a family-worldview
in culture and policy and craft an international consensus
in favour of the family.
