PRO-FAMILY GROUPS IN CANADA ORGANIZE AGAINST THE ANTI-MARRIAGE BILL C-38
When the Supreme Court of Canada handed down
its decision on the same-sex marriage reference on December
9, 2004, pro-family organizations in Canada formed a coalition
to oppose the Liberal Government's proposed bill on the issue.
At meetings of the four national pro-family
groups which included: Canada Family Action Coalition (CFAC),
Catholic Civil Rights League, Campaign Life Coalition and
REAL Women of Canada, it was decided to call our coalition,
the Defend Marriage Coalition and that we would carry out
the following projects:
- Establish a web site. This has now been
set up and can be located at: www.defendmarriage.ca. The
purpose of the website is to provide up to the minute information
on MPs votes on Bill C-38, rallies organized at MPs constituency
offices, fundraising activities on behalf of traditional
marriage etc.
- Provide free brochures on traditional marriage
(translated into five languages) and provide lawn signs
to promote traditional marriage. Information on these two
items can be found on the website www.defendmarriage.ca
- Purchase a number of full page advertisements
in the National Post.
- Rental of a bus painted with a defendmarriage.ca
logo. This bus circulates in targeted ridings where MPs
are "uncertain" as to how they will vote on the
same-sex marriage bill.
- Organize rallies outside the constituency
offices of MPs who plan to vote for same-sex marriage or
who are uncertain as to how they will vote.
- Boycott Famous Players Theatres across
Canada. (See Article "Famous Players Theatres Boycott.)
In addition to the above, pro-family groups
have been arranging for the lobbying of MPs to continue in
full force, especially against Liberal MPs, in order to counteract
the pressure from the liberal party machine to support this
anti-marriage Bill C-38.
