GOVERNMENTS FUND CHILDREN'S BOOK PROMOTING SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

Jumping the gun on the legality of same-sex marriages, the federal government's Heritage Department and the Ontario Government's Ministry of Culture forked over taxpayers' money to a feminist / lesbian publishing company in Toronto called Second Story Press, to produce a children's book promoting same-sex marriage. The book was written by a Toronto homosexual, Ken Setterington.

This all came to light in February, when the publishing company sent a copy of the book, titled "Mom and Mum are Getting Married!", to every Member of Parliament. The book was accompanied by a letter stating that Second Story Press would like to offer its full support regarding the passing of Bill C-38, and that " … the legal recognition of same-sex unions, is an important step in creating a just society". The publisher calls this book, "a gentle story for young children that celebrates the joyous planning of a wedding where the happy couple happens to be two women."

There is no hint in the book that a father exists anywhere in the child's life, or that same-sex unions are not acceptable to a majority of Canadians. Instead, the book paints a rosy picture of grandparents, uncles, aunts and friends all joyously celebrating the wonderful event without a single reservation or moment of hesitation. This book was obviously published for the purpose of the indoctrination of children on the same-sex marriage issue. The book also exposes the fact that activists for same-sex marriage know that same-sex unions have nothing to do with equality rights, but everything to do with fundamentally changing the meaning of traditional marriage and the family. The book is essentially all about exchanging a heterosexual society with a homosexual one. This book is just the beginning of what's in store for our schools if same-sex marriage is ever passed into law.

Although homosexual activists can publish what they like, they surely should not do so at taxpayers' expense. Yet, the Government of Canada and the Ontario Government have made this controversial book possible by giving generous grants to its publisher. The government departments funding the controversial publisher are as follows:

Government of Canada

a) Heritage Department

Heritage Canada, under its Minister, Liza Frulla, awarded a grant of $73, 903.00 in the fiscal year 2003- 2004 to the feminist / lesbian publishers, Second Story Press through the Book Publishing Industry Development Program.

b) Canada Council for the Arts

The Canada Council for the Arts was established by an Act of Parliament in 1957 to foster and promote the study and promotion of the arts, offering grants to Canadians in music, theatre, writing, etc.

It has an 11-member board, appointed by an Order in Council, ie rubber stamped by the Cabinet. Salaries are paid by the government. The Council received $50,000,000.00 to establish an Endowment Fund from which it makes awards. In the fiscal year 2004 - 2005 the Canada Council gave $47,100 to Second Story Press.

This is not the first time that the Canada Council has attempted to fund the homosexual agenda. In March, 2001, the Canadian Council for the Arts awarded $1,000.00 to a filmmaker, Ken Takahashi, to make a film on man / boy sexual relationship, i.e. pedophilia. The director of the film stated that he believes that individuals who have an attraction for pre-pubescents, should not be denied their sexuality. (Ottawa Citizen, March 28, 2004) The funding of this film, "The Last Night with Jesse", fortunately, was stopped because of public outrage against the council's grant.

Ontario Government Funding

The Ontario Minister of Culture, Madeleine Meilleur, through for the Ontario Media Development Corporation's Book Initiative, gave a grant to Second Story Press in 2004 - 2005. However, in spite of numerous enquiries about this programme's grant to the feminist publisher, the programme has refused to release the amount. Why? Shouldn't the taxpayers know how the government spends our money?

It is obvious from the above that this feminist / lesbian publishing company, Second Story Press, exists only because of the taxpayers' money handed over to it by sympathetic bureaucrats and politicians. This must stop. Please write to The Department of Canadian Heritage, Canada Council for the Arts, and the Ontario Ministry of Culture to object to taxpayers' money being given to a feminist / lesbian company to publish propaganda. Also, write to the Minister of Culture for the Government of Ontario asking for a release of information on the grant it gave to Second Story Press.
