PEOPLE ARE JUST GETTING CRAZIER

One would think that the world cannot sink any lower as we seem to have reached the outer limits of libertine excess, selfishness and plain stupidity. But the situation just keeps deteriorating and becoming wackier with each passing day.

Proof of this is not hard to find. For example:

  1. Professor Ian Wilmut, of the Roslin Institute in the UK, who is the scientist who developed Dolly the sheep by the cloning process, announced that using stem cells for research is far more ethical than using animals because "this saves potentially many animals' lives."

Obviously, Professor Wilmut thinks human life is expendable in scientific experimentation but that the lives of animals are more precious. Professor Wilmut is seeking a license to experiment on embryonic stem cells.

  2. Gareth Kirby, Editor of the homosexual newspaper Capital Xtra (August 11, 2005), commenting on how homosexual couples can stay together stated "… most long-term gay relationships work because the couple has come to an understanding that monogamy and fidelity are not the same thing and that it's okay to have sex with others in an agreed upon honest way."

Homosexual activists insisted that their right to marry was based on the fact that their relationships were equal to those of heterosexuals. There appears, however, to be one critical difference between same-sex relationships and heterosexual ones. Sexual fidelity is crucial to the stability of opposite-sex relationships but this is obviously not the case in homosexual relationships. This major difference has long range ramifications for the institution of marriage and for children who require stable relationships in order to thrive.

  3. Ex-inmates of a Remand Centre in Edmonton were given permission by the Alberta courts to sue the jail because it violated their constitutional rights in that inmates were strip searched, overcrowded in the cells, given cold food and were denied fresh air. The Supreme Court of Canada denied the Edmonton Remand Centre Leave to Appeal when it sought to appeal this decision of Alberta's lower courts. Instead, the Supreme Court of Canada held that the prisoners have a right to sue for a declaration that the living conditions at the jail were unacceptable.

All along we thought that prisoners were detained in jail because they had violated the law and were placed there as punishment, rather than for their comfort and convenience.

  4. Gens Hellquist, executive director of the Canadian Rainbow Health Coalition, who was formerly employed by Gay and Lesbian Services of Saskatoon, claims that homophobia has caused crucial problems for homosexuals. These problems include a suicide rate six times higher than that found in the heterosexual community, smoking and alcohol abuse, illicit drug use, unemployment, physical violence, HIV/AIDS and depression. He claims that the "chronic stress" placed on homosexuals having to cope with society's negative responses and stigmatization due to their homosexuality is responsible for these problems, which he estimates cost the social and health care system in Canada about $9 billion dollars annually. He also claims that stress is responsible for the death of 5,500 homosexuals in Canada last year.

Taking personal responsibility for their homosexual lifestyle apparently isn't relevant to Mr. Hellquist and his fellow homosexual activists. Neither is the fact the homosexual lifestyle, rather than "homophobia" is causing the harm, since, in countries such as the Netherlands , which is especially open and accepting of homosexuality, homosexuals are experiencing the same serious health and social problems as homosexuals in Canada.

  5. Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew has not been a shining light in his portfolio. Mr. Pettigrew is a homosexual who has not helped his credibility either by taking his personal chauffeur, Bruno Labonté, at the public's expense, to Europe and South America, visiting Lima, Mexico City, Brussels, Paris and Madrid in 2001 and 2002 (Globe and Mail, September 14, 2005). The chauffeur's trips abroad cost the taxpayer $10,000.00 even though he did not chauffeur the Minister during these international visits. On the European trip, for example, Mr. Labonté accumulated tabs of $2,641.98 in hotels and meals in addition to his business class ticket, which cost $5,602.38.

Cabinet Ministers do not typically travel abroad with their own security advisors or chauffeurs, as these are provided by local authorities in co-ordination with the Canadian embassy. A spokesperson in Mr. Pettigrew's office explained that Mr. Pettigrew's chauffeur accompanied the minister on his foreign trips because the chauffeur "had some responsibilities that are not on his official job description." We can only imagine.

These are only a few of the more recent examples of the insanity that surrounds us today. Truth, decency and common sense are no longer required to conduct oneself in society.
